I have been having a conversation with Mr.
ing, who is the Engineer-in-Chief of the Hong Kong
wireless system, and think I had better suggest to
you that a reply to our letter about the proposed
transfer of the system to the Company is becoming
rather a matter of urgency. I realise that the
question is intimately relted with a number of other
issues of some dificulty with regard to communication
with Australia and Singapore. The reason why I
suggest that it is urgent is the following.
asked me to consider whether we ought not to warn Hong
Fong not to enter into arrangements for new services
which the Company night possibly not wish to take on,
and which would involve in some cases the purchase of
additional plant. What he has in mind is the
possibility of Hong Kong communicating by wireless
with Japan and other places not in China. Such
wireless services would be in competition with your
